Sparkling White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor

Bad Girl by Lee Moses
Whilst I don't have any other Elizabeth Taylor fragrances in my collection I am not a newbie to her scents. I have a sister who is obsessed, and I mean obsessed with any perfume Elizabeth Taylor has ever made. If Elizabeth Taylor made it, she wants it, even if she's not particularly fond of the scent ... This is quite an odd conundrum, when considering said sister has a natural aversion to perfume in general, be it household sprays, strong detergents, etc. A wrong sniff could leave her with flu-like symptoms and bedridden for the rest of the day as she grumbles and complains in her pillowed hidey-hole (also known as a bedroom but, in this case, more like an escape cave). Thus, I was pleasantly surprised that over the years my sister began delving into the sumptuous frivolities of perfume at the deep end. Yes, not nansy pansy scents but strong opulent fragrances that enveloped its wearer in intrigue, theatre, and allure.
Top Notes - Lily, Gardenia, Neroli
Middle Notes - Jasmine, Rose, Narcissus
Base - Amber, Woodsy Notes, Musk
Hence, whenever I make my rounds in perfume shops (a place where my sister daren't go) and come across Elizabeth Taylor perfumes, the mischievous imp in me kicks in. I make sure to find out if the perfumes in the store are cheaper than what she paid and if there are any perfumes she doesn't have that I can inform her on, or worse - buy for myself. Yes, there is still a child-like slice of me that finds pleasure in teasing said senior. She calls it torment which only widens my grin ... Pettiness aside, Elizabeth Taylor perfumes should not be snubbed at even if more often than not, they lay huddled together with archaic bargain scents which nobody dares to try let alone be seen to buy. Her fragrances are a great legacy to not only her career but life in the starlight and business.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor was a diamond indeed. So, it's not hard to see that with such a lengthy career in the limelight (started as a child actress) spanning several decades, she endorsed perfume. She was not the first celebrity to do so but to date, she was and is one of the most successful actresses to do so.

Sparkling White Diamonds perfume smells like soap, specifically dove soap - ahem I mean beauty bar. It's clean, pretty and feminine without trying to guile you by pretending its anything other than soapy. In my world, this is a safe perfume - who doesn't like the smell of soap? - it smells like coming out of a bubble bath with those traditional smelling soaps or shower gels. This was a blind buy, meaning that I didn't smell it before buying but, I did a quick search to find out that it would smell like soap and it does. Not particularly exciting, if you're after passion, a perfume that has a personality and drama, this ain't the perfume. This is not the first Elizabeth Taylor blind buy that has left the imp in me lame and feeling like the joke was on me. The first was White Diamonds Night which I quickly gifted to my sister after the floral woody musk did not live up to my expectations. Now this, my newly acquired Sparkling White Diamonds (SWD) perfume was heading the same way until I realised it filled a space in my collection - clean scents. I've never been one to fawn over CK One and the likes of light clean smells that get lost in seconds, thankfully SWD is polite enough to linger around after the initial encounter lasting for a decent time.
What's good about clean perfumes? Well, they don't have much character. Meaning that dramatic personalities are not projected like how a raunchy musk might or a fruity flirty floral could be interpreted. SWD is the perfect scent when I want to smell clean but neutral and not offending. Sure, someone out there could detest the smell of soap but generally, I'd say smelling lightly soapy is no bad thing. Thus, this is my official "pardon if I'm invading your personal fragrance perfume" that I'll be experimenting with when invading personal spaces. Whilst it does dry down after let's say 3-4 hrs to a light smudge of its former self there is something spikey about it which makes me think all is not tame, which is exactly how I like it.

Price: £7.99 for a 30ml pretty bottle in the standard cylindrical shape that many of her fragrances come in.
