Doncaster on the agenda for Aidan O’Brien colt Luxembourg | Racing news

Luxembourg, the new Derby favorite, are vying for a Group One assignment in the Vertem Futurity Trophy in Doncaster.

Camelot’s son, coached by Aidan O’Brien, made a strong impression on Saturday at the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh, going to victory under Seamie Heffernan as he came back from last to first to bring his record to two for two.

A trip to Town Moor on October 23 now awaits, it should be all right – a race his father won in 2011 en route to landing the 2000 Guineas and Derby the following year.

O’Brien said: “He’s a lovely horse and showed a lot before going to Killarney (debut). He came forward every week after that, and it was a nice second stop for him.

“The plan was to come here and then he could go for the Futurity if he’s okay. Sometimes this time of year the horses can go away, because he’s a great horse.

“He has a lot of class and is not short of pace. He does his job very well.”

Luxembourg had been co-favorite for Epsom shortly after Beresford, but they were the clear market leader 8-1 on Sunday.

O’Brien hadn’t been to the Curragh to watch Luxembourg, because moments earlier Tenebrism was winning the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes in spectacular fashion for him in Newmarket – wearing the same colors as Westerberg.

The Ballydoyle coach said: “She looked incredibly special to Naas (in her only run prior to March) when she took off in the last furlong, and was ready to go racing yesterday.

“Obviously she is a good filly. You would want her to run over seven (furlong) to see what would happen next year, but it looked like the way she went to the line (in Newmarket) that could get as many as seven.”
